The Associate in Fine Arts Degree - Music is designed for students who plan to transfer to a university, college, or conservatory and major in music. Focus is on music foundation classes and general education requirements that will transfer to other institutions. General Education Requirements


Humanities (6 credits)


Social Science (6 credits)


Courses must be taken in more than one academic discipline

  • Complete two 100 level or higher Social Science courses Credits 6 / 6 Contact Hours

Mathematics (4-5 credits)


  • Complete MATH 130   or higher Mathematics course

Additional Associate in Fine Arts Requirement (8 credits)


  • Complete two 100 level or higher Natural Science courses - Courses must be taken in more than one academic discipline and one course must have a lab Credits 8 / 8 Contact Hours

Group Total: Credits 30-31 / 32-35 Contact Hours


4 Semesters of Ensemble


Music majors are required to participate in Band (instrumentalists) or Choir (vocalists) for four semesters. A chamber ensemble may be substituted for jazz majors (Jazz Ensemble), guitarists (Guitar Ensemble), and string and piano players (String Ensemble/Piano Trio).

Computer Competency Requirement


Beginning 2016, demonstration of computer competency is a degree requirement at Mott Community College

Computer competency can be demonstrated by one of two ways:

NOTE: Some programs require taking COMG-153; for these programs, the Test-Out option is not available. For those programs that do not require COMG-153, the competency test-out option is available and can be taken in the Academic Testing Center, located on the 3rd floor of the Mott Library.
