The Associate in Arts (AA) degree is designed primarily for students who plan to transfer to a four-year college or university and pursue a major in humanities and/or social sciences, or who plan to pursue a degree in a professional career such as education, law, or business. This degree meets the Michigan Transfer Agreement (MTA) requirements, satisfying the required distribution of 28-30 General Education hours. It also includes additional courses counting toward a Bachelor’s Degree.
It is extremely important to consider the requirements at the college you plan to transfer to when selecting courses.

General Education Requirements
Writing and Communication (9 credits)
Students must successfully complete 2 English Composition courses and 1 Communication course
Humanities (9-11 credits)
Students must successfully complete 3 courses from at least two different academic disciplines
- Humanities courses include: Arts, Communication*, Foreign Language, Literature, Philosophy Credits 9 / 11 Contact Hours
*If a communication class is taken in the Writing/Communication category, it cannot be counted again as Humanities.
Social Science (9-12 credits)
Students must successfully complete 3 courses from at least two different academic disciplines
- Social science courses include: Anthropology, Economics, Geography, History, Political Science, Psychology, Sociology Credits 9 / 12 Contact Hours
Mathematics (4-5 credits)
Students must successfully complete one of the following math courses. Selection of the math pathway should be based on the college students are transferring to
Science (7-8 credits)
Students must successfully complete 2 science courses from two different science disciplines and one course must have a lab
- Science courses include: Astronomy, Biology, Chemistry, Geology, Physical Science, Physics, Scientific Inquiry Credits 7 / 8 Contact Hours
Select Additional Elective Courses (20-24 credits)
- Consult with an advisor/counselor to determine specific courses to be taken to complete the remaining 20-24 credits needed for the AA degree. Credits 20 / 24 Contact Hours
Computer Competency Requirement
Beginning 2016, demonstration of computer competency is a degree requirement at Mott Community College
Computer competency can be demonstrated by one of two ways:
NOTE: Some programs require taking COMG-153; for these programs, the Test-Out option is not available. For those programs that do not require COMG-153, the competency test-out option is available and can be taken in the Academic Testing Center, located on the 3rd floor of the Mott Library.

Notes:
- A 2.0 or higher is required in each course counting toward the Michigan Transfer Agreement (MTA) designation
- All course and degree requirements must be met
- 15 credits minimum must be earned at MCC
- Minimum cumulative GPA of 2.0
