ENGL-103 Composition for Technical Fields I

Credits 3 / 3 Contact Hours
Pre-requisite: Placement into ACRD 080 ; Placement into ENGL-101  through the Mott placement process or concurrent enrollment in a paired section of ENGL 099  ALP, or completion of ELAP 120  with a 2.5 or higher.
This course provides students with the equivalent of traditional first semester composition experience but with an emphasis on technical writing that is geared toward specialized fields such as healthcare, criminal justice, and various
technical fields.

Course Outcomes
1. Adapt writing to different audiences, purposes, and contexts

2. Analyze examples of technical writing critically, analyzing their purpose and usability
3. Focus technical writing clearly and develop the focus with relevant details and evidence, including relevant visuals
4. Organize writing logically to ensure usability
5. Engage with the words and ideas of others with clarity and academic integrity
6. Explore topics of personal and/or professional relevance through research
7. Engage in the writing process through pre-writing, drafting, revising, and editing
