MAET-140 Podcast Design & ProductionCredits 3 / 3 Contact Hours Pre-requisite: Placement into ACRD-090, ACRD-091 or ACRD-092, completion of ELAP-110 with a minimum grade of 2.0, or successful completion of ACRD-080. NOTE: Headphones and a jump/flash/thumb drive are required for this course. Explores the process of creating a podcast from defining its concept to producing, editing, and building an engaged audience. This course will cover the podcasting industry’s history and how it makes money. Students will listen to different successful shows and understand the key elements they have in common. While furthering their skills in audio recording and editing, students will create an original podcast series and produce the first episode to share by the end of the course.

Course Outcomes 1. Analyze distribution strategies and generate their own marketing and distribution strategy based on podcast content needs.
2. Demonstrate an ability to create and distribute podcast content via the web.
3. Demonstrate an ability to write and produce multi-episodic programming based non-fiction projects.
4. Demonstrate their ability to research, gather and produce non-fiction content.
5. Demonstrate an understanding of the professional ethical principles inherent to journalistic podcast production, which include truth, accuracy and diversity of ideas.
6. Think critically and independently about the platform’s past and present, and consider its future use.
7. Describe current tools and technologies appropriate for podcasting in all its digital applications.
8. Write correctly and clearly in forms and styles appropriate for the communications professions, audiences and purposes they serve.
9. Critically evaluate their own work and that of others for accuracy and fairness, clarity, appropriate style and grammatical correctness.
