MATH-090 Introductory AlgebraCredits 4 / 5 Contact Hours Pre-requisite: Placement into ACRD-090, ACRD-091 or ACRD-092, completion of ELAP-110 with a minimum grade of 2.0, or successful completion of ACRD-080; Placement into MATH-090. This course is intended for students who did not take one year of high school algebra or who need a review of arithmetic and beginning algebra. Topics covered include real numbers; solving linear equations and inequalities; systems of equations; ratio, rate, proportion and percent; measurements and conversions; formulas; problem solving; polynomials; factoring; rational expressions; graphing linear equations; and square roots and radicals.
Course Outcomes 1. Perform simple computations with real numbers without the aid of a calculator.
2. Perform basic algebraic operations
3. Write real-world situations as mathematical expressions and equations
4. Solve linear equations including solving real-world applications
5. Solve linear inequalities and represent solution sets using graphs
6. Solve applications using ratios, rates, proportions, and percents
7. Compare units of measure in the US and Metric systems and convert measurements
8. Use geometric formulas to solve real-world applications
9. Evaluate and simplify expressions involving exponents
10. Perform operations with polynomials
11. Factor polynomials
12. Use factoring to solve quadratic equations and applications
13. Simplify and perform operations with rational expressions
14. Solve equations and applications involving rational expressions
15. Plot points and graph linear equations on a rectangular coordinate system
16. Determine the slope/rate of change of a line and the equation of a line
17. Use a system of linear equations to solve applications
18. Evaluate and simplify simple radical expressions
