MAET-150 News Production

Credits 4 / 6 Contact Hours
Pre-requisite: Placement into ACRD-090, ACRD-091 or ACRD-092, completion of ELAP-110 with a minimum grade of 2.0, or successful completion of ACRD-080; MAET-100 . Pre- or co-requisite: ENGL-101  with a minimum grade of 2.0 or concurrent enrollment.
Focuses on the skills and knowledge needed to produce stories, features, and documentaries for broadcast and streaming news platforms, as well as careers in corporate communications, public relations, advertising, and education. The course will cover all aspects of the production process, from writing and recording news to editing, producing, and delivering content using both virtual set and EFP techniques. Students will also learn about the ethical and theoretical considerations that journalists and media
professionals must take into account when reporting.

Course Outcomes
1. Explore the state of news media in American culture.
2. Write, produce and direct short news productions and begin to develop a portfolio.
3. Write and produce sports reporting for a portfolio.
4. Write and produce different styles of news reports for commercial and public outlets.
5. Critique a variety of news program content.
6. Analyze and discuss theories and principles of effective news reporting.
7. Explain the role that artist elements, ethical considerations and editorial judgments play in framing news reports, advertisements, and other media portrayals of people, places and things.
