ENGL-242 English Literature IICredits 3 / 3 Contact Hours Pre-requisite: Placement into RDNG-030 (ACSR-030), completion of ELAP-110 with a minimum grade of 2.0, or successful completion of RDNG-016 or ACLT-074 with a minimum grade of 3.0. Pre-requisite: Successful completion of ENGL-101 or ENGL-103 with a grade of 2.0 or higher. A study of six to ten representative authors of British literature from 1750 to present including poetry essays and fiction from such writers as Wordsworth Coleridge Byron Keats Tennyson Arnold Dickens Wilde Conrad Lawrence and Eliot.
Course Outcomes 1. To develop our ability to read what might be unfamiliar forms and styles of writing 2. To explore how this literature both reveals and speaks to the social, political, and artistic context of the people who wrote it and first read it. 3. To explore how this literature speaks to our time, our lives, our concerns.
