ENGL-212 Adolescent Literature

Credits 3 / 3 Contact Hours
Prerequisite: Successful completion of ENGL-101  or ENGL-103  with a grade of 2.0 or higher. Placement into ENGL-100  (ACSR-100) or completion of RDNG-030 , ACLT-075  or ACLT-076  is required.
A survey of a variety of interesting and relevant novels and poetry written for teenage readers. Focuses on contemporary realistic fiction fantasy and historical novels and some modern poetry.

Course Outcomes
1. Discuss the various types of literature appropriate for use with young adult 2. Demonstrate the ability to analyze literary works according to traditional methods 3. Become familiar and conversant with notable authors of fiction, non-fiction, and poetry for young adults 4. Develop writing skills needed to write about literature 5. Apply reader response theory as a means to create transactions between the reader and the text 6. Become familiar with other theoretical lenses through which one may interpret literature
