DHYG-117 Dental Anatomy and Histology

Pre-requisite: Coordinator's signature is required for registration; Program Eligibility Requirements; Placement into ENGL-100 (ACSR-100), completion of ELAP-120 with a 2.0, or completion of RDNG-030, ACLT-075 or ACLT-076.
This course includes an overview of embryological development of the head and neck, microscopic anatomy of tissue of the oral cavity, and the study of tooth morphology.

Course Outcomes
1. Integrate and utilize knowledge of the primary and permanent dentition into the dental treatment of patients 2. Define and demonstrate understanding of the general and specific anatomical features of primary and permanent teeth 3. Discuss the important clinical considerations and developmental disturbances based on the anatomy of the primary and permanent dentition 4. Define and demonstrate understanding of each dentition period and discuss the important clinical considerations for each dentition period and their relationship to each other 5. Discuss and demonstrate understanding of the histologic features and development of dental tissue, gingival tissue, periodontium, and head and neck tissue 6. Integrate the knowledge of histology with an understanding of the promotion of the health of dental tissues, gingival tissue, periodontium, and head and neck tissue and the relates pathology that may occur within it
